Announcement and Call for Papers:

The 2010 Lubbock Severe Weather Conference

Lubbock, Texas

February 17 - February 19, 2010

The 2010 Lubbock Severe Weather Conference will be held Wednesday through Friday, February 17-19, 2010, at the Overton Hotel and Conference Center in Lubbock, Texas. The conference is co-sponsored by COMET, the Atmospheric Science Group at Texas Tech University, the National Weather Service and the Electronic Journal of Severe Storms Meteorology.

The conference will provide an opportunity for discussion and presentation of research on a broad spectrum of severe weather topics. An emphasis will be placed on the advances made in observation and analysis of severe hazardous weather. Presentation subjects will range from boundary layer and storm-scale processes associated with severe convection to wind characteristics of land-falling tropical cyclones. The two and a half day conference will include oral presentations and a unique hands-on approach to data analysis. The final afternoon session will offer the opportunity to tour the WInd Science and Engineering (WISE) Research Facility and the West Texas Mesonet, both located at the nearby Reese Technology Center.

The last Lubbock Severe Weather Conference was held in 1999 and had a similar theme. Since that time much advancement has been made in near-ground high resolution observations in the near storm environment including the application of radar technology over a broad wavelength during field projects. The conference agenda will be designed to illuminate recent findings in the research community while welcoming operational and student research on these topics. The overarching goal is for all participants to benefit from information exchange provided by a common theme with a strengthened relationship between academia, public and private partners.
